FRACTIONAL SUSTAINABILITY TEAMS FOR UK COMPANIES

Your sustainability team is stretched. We become the team behind them.

One person can’t be responsible for everything. Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon accounting. ESOS compliance. Net-zero strategy. Supply chain assessments. Thallo can become the team behind them – at a fixed monthly cost.

ESOS, SECR, Scope 1, 2 and 3 reporting, net zero, supply chain due diligence. Five frameworks. Five deadlines. Most sustainability teams have 1-3 people covering all of it. The scope grows every year. The headcount doesn’t.

Responsible for everything. Resourced for a fraction of it.

Carbon accounting, regulatory compliance, net-zero strategy, board reporting, supply chain assessments. The remit keeps expanding. The team doesn’t.

76%

are not adequately resourced

Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon accounting, ESOS, SECR, net-zero targets. The remit keeps growing. The team and budget don’t.

91%

stretched beyond their expertise

Compliance, carbon accounting, strategy, reporting, supply chain. No single person has deep expertise across all of it. Industry research now recommends lean core teams augmented by fractional specialists – this is exactly the model Thallo delivers.

11%

are confident of hitting their targets

Down from 25% in 2024. Confidence is falling because the gap between ambition and capacity keeps widening. A fractional team closes that gap.

“I’m tasked with coordination but without the power to compel change.”
“In perpetual reporting mode with little time for transformation.”
“I feel like sustainability is all on me and I’m the only one who cares.”

Option Cost The reality
Hire a Sustainability Manager £75-90k/year 6 months to recruit. 3 months before they’re productive. 9 months before output. Still one person.
Traditional consultancy £1-2k/day Project-based. They deliver a report, then leave. No continuity. No one owns the follow-through.
Specialist auditor only £5-15k per audit Covers one thing. Doesn’t do your carbon accounting, write your SECR report, handle Scope 3 data collection, or manage your net-zero roadmap.
Keep muddling through Free (for now) Regulations are tightening, not easing. ESOS action plans go public this year. Scope 3 reporting is coming. Your board, customers, and competitors will see where you stand.
Thallo (fractional team) From £1,500/mo Starts in days. Fixed monthly cost. A team, not a person.

Questions you’re probably asking

We’re not replacing them. We’re giving them a team. Research shows 76% of sustainability teams are not adequately resourced and 91% are stretched beyond their expertise. Only 11% are confident of hitting their targets – down from 25% in 2024. Your sustainability lead stays focused on strategy while we handle carbon accounting, compliance filings, Scope 1, 2 and 3 data collection, supplier questionnaires, and reporting. The work that drowns them.
Seven pillars: compliance and regulatory (ESOS, SECR, emerging UK SRS), reporting and disclosure (GRI, CDP, TCFD/ISSB), carbon accounting and energy management (Scope 1, 2, and 3), strategy and roadmapping (net-zero pathways, materiality assessments), supply chain (supplier assessments, Scope 3 data, procurement policies), communications and training (stakeholder engagement, board packs, team capability building), and carbon market strategy (offset procurement, credit selection, and preferential access to Thallo’s carbon credit marketplace).
Traditional consultancies charge day rates, deliver a report, and leave. Thallo works as part of your team at a fixed monthly cost, with continuity across compliance, carbon accounting, reporting, and strategy. We also built one of Europe’s leading carbon credit exchanges, so clients get direct access to high-integrity carbon credits at preferential pricing. No other fractional sustainability provider offers this.
Within one week of agreement. The 3-6 month recruitment and onboarding timeline only applies to full-time hires. Our consultants already know the frameworks, the carbon accounting methodologies, and the reporting standards. There is no onboarding lag.
Lead assessors cover the energy audit. They don’t do your carbon accounting, prepare your SECR report, handle Scope 3 screening, build your net-zero strategy, prepare board packs, or manage your carbon credits. ESOS is one framework among many – a lead assessor covers one slice of one requirement.
ESOS Phase 4 is the fourth compliance period of the UK Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme. The qualification date is 31 December 2026. Your organisation must submit a progress report by 5 December 2026 and achieve full compliance by 5 December 2027. The critical change: for the first time, the Environment Agency will publicly disclose action plans and progress reports. It applies to UK organisations with 250 or more employees, or annual turnover above £44 million and a balance sheet above £38 million.
3-month minimum commitment. After that, you roll monthly. No long-term lock-in. No exit fees. No notice period beyond the current month. If we’re not delivering, you walk.
